Introduction

The Department of General Surgery was first established in year 2002. Under the guidance and leadership of Professor Dr. Yasien Mallah Taher, HOD and his competent team, the department of surgery is committed to the mission and vision of Thumbay’s group in providing excellent surgical global health care to its patients in Thumbay Hospital, the 1st JCI Accredited Hospital in Ajman,UAE .

Overview

The Department was set up in the year 2002. Since its inception, the Department has blossomed into the present state providing excellent healthcare to its patients in the UAE region. On a monthly average we see 1300 patients (approximately) as outpatients and perform Major operations 60-70 (approximately) and Minor operations 150-160 (approximately).

We provide outstanding surgical care to all patients in outpatient, inpatient and emergency department. Our team concept and honest, dedicated professional, skilled staffs(doctors,nurses,paramedical) help in delivering of top quality surgical care to the patients using modern cost effective using the latest technology.

Services

The Department of Surgery is supported by highly qualified and experienced surgeons committed to safety and welfare of the patient. It provides surgical care for a wide range of surgical conditions ranging from simple conditions like drainage of abscess to highly complex conditions like polytrauma management. The department specializes in operations of Thyroid, breast, hernia repair with mesh, surgery of the colon, gall bladder, removal of spleen, appendectomy, surgery for peptic ulcers, gastric cancers, removal of superficial lumps, lymph node biopsies, varicose veins surgery, surgery for ingrowing toe nails etc. The whole range of anal conditions like piles, fissure-in-ano, fistula-in-ano and perianal abscesses are managed and the post-operative care given is exemplary. Circumcision for all ages including plastic bell is done. Lower GI endoscopies are available.

Laparoscopic surgery like laparoscopic cholecystectomy, lap. Appendectomy, lap. Hernia repair & lap.varicocelectomy are practiced in the hospital with excellent results.

Laser surgery for varicose vein, hemorrhoids, fissure-in-ano, fistula-in-ano & pilonidal sinus is done with nice results.

THD operation of the treatment of hemorrhoids internal cutting on bleeding and without postoperative pain is conducted in the hospital with good results.

Round the clock trauma services are provided by personnel who have been specially trained to handle trauma victims. Our trauma team coordinates the initial evaluation and treatment of all injured patients brought to ER. Other emergency Conditions like peritonitis and appendicitis are also handled at all times of the day and night. Surgical faculty together with closely supervised general surgical residents, who are BTLS certified, provide round the clock coverage of the emergency room. The Trauma Surgeons are ATLS certified and have rich experience in managing polytrauma patients. They have managed cases of major liver lacerations, pelvic fractures with bladder injuries, Splenic trauma, intestinal injuries, etc. successfully.

The Surgeons are available for general surgical emergencies like bowel perforations, intestinal obstructions, strangulated hernias, torsion testis, acute appendectomies, drainage of abscesses, etc. Department of Surgery coordinates with other departments to have multi-disciplinary approach so that the patient gets the best care possible. Well-equipped operation theatres (major & minor), post-operative wards and ICU ensure that all patients receive best quality care at all times.
