Thumbay Hospital – Ajman, the leading academic hospital under the healthcare division of Thumbay Group, observed Global Hand-washing Day by demonstrating the correct way of washing hands and by explaining hand-washing techniques to the students of different schools, on 15th October 2017. As part of the program, organized by the hospital with the aim of increasing awareness and understanding about importance of washing hands the right way, doctors of the hospital visited Al Ameer English School, Woodlem Park School and Aspam Indian School, educating students about the importance of hygiene. The campaign sought to teach them about the importance of clean hands and ways to improve hand hygiene habits among students to prevent the spread of infectious disease and reduce related absenteeism. It highlighted how students in the schools can transform ‘hand washing’ into engaging and effective lessons for their classmates, teachers, parents and communities.
Addressing the students, the doctors said that washing hands was the easiest way to prevent diseases and save lives, adding that the spread of many communicable diseases could be prevented by washing hands the right way. Students were also taught about the importance of washing the hands before and after eating, after sneezing, coughing, visiting public places, touching pet animals, and after using toilets etc. The doctors urged students to develop the habit of washing hands as a measure of protection against the attacks of germs like bacteria, fungi and parasites.
