Introduction
The Department of Pediatrics at Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah, provides comprehensive health care for the pediatric population of Fujairah and surrounding areas such as Kalba, Khorfakkan, Al-Qurraya, Al Dhaid, Masafi, and people from the Oman border area. Members of the department are also involved in undergraduate clinical teaching for Pharmacy students and staff nurses.
The Pediatric Department manages all acute medical emergencies including croup, acute severe asthma, pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis, high-grade fever, febrile seizures, DKA, and various infectious diseases like influenza, other viral fevers, hepatitis, and typhoid.
Overview
The Pediatric Department has 3 specialist doctors to diagnose and treat infants and children with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and neurological problems, and also advise on growth and nutrition. Pediatric OPD is open every day (8am to 10pm), including Fridays (4pm to 8pm). BCG and OPV vaccines are administered only on Saturday and Wednesday, while vaccines for Chickenpox, Influenza, Rotavirus, Hepatitis A, and Typhoid are given daily. Newborns are assessed at follow-up visits in the Pediatric OPD.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is a high-dependency unit offering tertiary care services to newborns of 34 weeks gestation and above. It is equipped with radiant warmers, incubators, bubble CPAP, ventilators, phototherapy units, and newborn cots for babies under observation. NICU also provides non-invasive ventilation and phototherapy when required.
