Introduction

The department of Pediatrics at Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah, provides comprehensive health care for the Pediatric population of Fujairah and suburb like Kalba, Khorfakkan, Al- Qurraya , Al Dhaid , Masafi and people from Oman border area as well. Members of the medical department are also involved in undergraduate clinical teaching of Pharmacy students, and staff nurses .

Department of Pediatrics manages all acute medical emergencies including Croup, Acute severe Asthma, Pneumonia, Acute Gastroenteritis, high grade fever, febrile seizures, DKA, various infectious disease like Influenza and other viral fever, hepatitis and typhoid etc.

Overview

The Pediatric Department has 3 Specialist doctors to diagnose and treat infants and children with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal and neurological problems and also advise on growth and nutrition. Pediatric OPD is open on all days (8am to 10pm) including Fridays (4pm to 8pm). BCG and OPV given only on Saturday and Wednesday. (Vaccines for Chickenpox, Influenza, Rotavirus, Hepatitis A and Typhoid given on all days). Newborn are assessed at the follow up in Pediatric OPD.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

NICU is a high dependency unit offering tertiary care services to newborn of 34 weeks gestation and above. It has Radiant warmers, Incubators, Bubble CPAP, Ventilators, Phototherapy units and newborn cots for babies kept under observation. NICU also takes care of Neonates who need non invasive ventilation and Phototherapy.

• Children with acute illness including acute gastroenteritis, acute asthma, Pneumonia and febrile seizures can be admitted to the ward for intravenous fluids intravenous antibiotics and monitoring.
