Overview

The Department was set up in the year 2001. Since its inception the department has blossomed into the present state wherein we provide anaesthetic services in 4 operation theatres with 24 hour services for emergency procedures. One operation theatre is dedicated solely to obstetric emergencies round the clock. We use both general and regional anaesthetic techniques either alone or in combination.

The department has modern anaesthesia machines with ventilators and monitors like electrocardiograph, pulseoximeters, capnographs, respiratory gas monitors. All Operation Rooms are equipped with Infusion pumps which help deliver the exact rate and amount of drugs to patients during the surgical procedure. Patient warming devices like warming blankets and fluid warmers, rapid infusion devices are also available for use.

We also deliver outstanding clinical care to all patients in the peri-operative period. After surgery, patients are monitored in a modern well equipped postoperative care unit by trained nursing staff under the guidance of the Anesthesiologists. Those who need more intense monitoring for a longer period of time are shifted to the critical care unit for further management.

The anaesthetist has a major role to play in the intensive care unit especially in the care of surgical patients and for those who require mechanical ventilation and other invasive procedures.

The department runs a Pre – Anaesthetic Clinic in the Out Patient department where patients are clinically assessed, optimized and then explained the various anesthetic techniques including pain management to alleviate the anxiety about the surgery.

Labor Analgesia (Painless Labor) is provided in the delivery suite on patient request.

The department provides twenty four hours resuscitative services. The Anaesthesiologist leads the medical emergency team and is available day and night within the hospital premises in order to ensure prompt attention and care of the patients coming as Emergency.
